A Budget-Friendly Luau Party
Earlier this summer, my friend Katie asked me to help her plan a surprise party for her mom's 60th birthday. She gave me only two requirements: 1) it had to be very budget-friendly and 2) it had incorporate a lot of color. What I designed was a bright and colorful luau with black and white and gold accents to add just the right amount of glam.
Invitations (designed by yours truly) featured text surrounded by a colorful lei on a black and white striped background. The park pavilion was decorated with string lights and paper lanterns of every color and underneath were picnic tables with black and white runners, palm leaves, gold pineapples (love!), and painted vases - again in every color. I think we definitely delivered on the color!!!
A number of DIY projects were incorporated to keep costs down. The biggest piece of DIY was the gift table. During the Pinterest phase, Katie fell in love with a picture of a photo collage in the shape of the number 60. We created our own and mounted it on a black and white backdrop that I created, complete with handmade tissue flowers.
Katie's amazing husband cook for a group of 40 friends and family, and adorable tropical themed sweet were provided by Pastries A-la-Carte.
