Old-World wedding inspiration with a vibrant color palette featured on Belle the Magazine.

There’s a lot of advice out there about buying your wedding dress. One tidbit I’ve heard is that it’s a lot easier to let your venue choice dictate your dress style than the other way around. And while that can be true, it doesn’t mean that’s how it has to be done.

Case in point: this shoot I styled with Krystal Healy Photography last year. The inspiration for this shoot all started with the dress.

Krystal had her eyes on this darling blue-grey tulle skirt from Mr. Pretty Skirt and was dying to do something with it. We tossed around a few ideas, and landed on taking a more traditional European design and adding a vibrant color palette.

Wait! You added color? Shocking! Yeah, yeah. But this a great way to show that even elegant, more refined designs can still benefit from a pop of color.

We planned this editorial at The Mansion in Butler, which is bursting with old world charm and is surrounded by the greenest forest you’ll ever see. We staged our reception out on the property’s patio, surrounded by lush greenery. The patio is already dressed with lights overhead (yay!), so EF Lighting focused their magic on the patio’s ledge with countless candles and vintage lanterns.

Our table was layered with a subtly striped overly on top of a pale blue linen, but from Mosaic. Ornate chargers, gold china, and ivory handled flatware from All Occasions complemented the romantic feel of the surroundings, as did the cane back Louis chairs from Marbella Rentals. But the centerpieces, featuring bold pops of orange astilbe and draping amaranthus added a more contemporary flair to the design.

Vintage Alley Rentals, Nizhoni Bakery, and Victoria Fiaretti added details that paired well with the refinement of the surrounding environment while still offering inspiration for the modern couple.
